Thank you for all the birthday messages. I’ll be blunt, this is not a good day for me and many people out there. I woke up this morning ashamed of being a citizen of a country where many voted that who I am, who I love, and what I believe in are wrong, and should be taken away and destroyed.
However, I’m not going to consider this the worst birthday I’ll ever have or the end. I have friends and family that still love me, wishing and giving me all the best today, and I firmly believe that there are people out there who will do what they can to help one another, and fight back whatever shit show we will be thrown at in the upcoming months
While we have the right to be sad, angry, disappointed, and terrified, remember to still say your pleases and thank yous, offer help, ask for help, greet people you meet, apologize if necessary, be kind, listen to others. Treat everyone the way you want to be treated. Also remember that everything you have worked for are not lost. You, your dreams, and your beliefs are still important and valid. After all, it’s our ability to choose–what you think is true–that makes us human.
