(I’m using Submit since it allows me to write more and it is about Assassin’s Creed so I hope I’m not breaking any of the rules. Also, it seems I have to include an image so I’m going with this, I kind of wish this was kept as the actual cover, it looks more imposing.)

I recently played the first Assassin’s Creed game for the first time in a few years and actually paying attention to the characters and their motives allowed me to have better understanding of “Nothing is True, Everything is Permitted” as well as having me side with most of the Templars, even if their intentions are shitty, their reasoning is actually really understandable (especially the one who’s burning books). For as repetitive as the first game could be, it’s actually one of the greyest in terms of morality and shows that both the Assassins and Templars are two sides of the same coin.

It’s interesting how the series for the most part actually continued that trend, despite what some people might say, they always try to show that both the Assassins and Templars have good points to their argument, especially the likes of Haytham and Crawford (although the latter bothers me due to his concept of control, where everyone works for him in some fashion, I can’t accept that). People say the games have declined in their message and have just made Assassins = Good/Templars = Bad but with maybe the exception of the Ezio games (at least the ones dealing with the Borgia), that has never been the case, I feel that the series is as strong as ever with it’s views and what it wants to show the audience and I can actually say that even if I don’t agree with their “Peace through Order” goals, I can side with some of the Templars and agree with their views of the world (although in the end, I’d still prefer the Assassins since I will always side with the idea of free thought and being allowed to make your own decisions).

I still like the games and as far as I can see, I have no reason to stop although part of me hopes the next game (assuming the Empire rumours are true) doesn’t revamp the whole system because I like it as it is now.
